Chrystine M. Sullivan Foundation
"Continuing the Fight Against Cancer"

History

Chrystine (Funder) Sullivan devoted much of her life to bettering the lot of others. She was active in numerous charitable endeavors on both formal and informal levels. When she lost her four and a half year battle to cancer in August of 1999, her friends and family immediately took action to continue her fight. They began building an endowment so that they can support those that live with and fight cancer.

Chrystine believed that all people deserved the same world-class treatment as her and those close to her share her dream for a cure. The Foundation has organized numerous fundraisers including an annual walk with the Brockton Hospital Foundation, Holiday Plays at the Company Theatre, and a Dinner Dance. Additionally, generous friends such as Rick Burke from McLaughlin Chevrolet have organized events to support the Foundation.

The Foundation continues to grow and has been featured in local newspapers. We thank all those that have supported the Foundation.

In the fall of 2002, the Foundation made its first grant to Pathways Cancer Center in Hanover. Pathways aims to help cancer patients through a combination of physical and educational programs. The physical programs include: yoga, acupuncture, and massage. The educational programs include counseling and how to best handle various aspects of the disease and of the treatments.

In the spring of 2003, the Foundation made its second grant to the Faulkner Breast Centre Research Fund. Dr. Katherine Mayzel, one of Chrys's former doctors, is developing a computerized database that will go a long way in determing where we are at in the fight against cancer. The information from the database also will call specific attention to other areas where research is needed.

In the fall and winter of 2003, Pathways Cancer Center in Hanover received further support from the Foundation.
